Donnie Keller

"I was born and raised on a wheat farm in Western Kansas. I graduated from Garden City High School in 1970, and from Garden City Junior College in 1972. I then graduated from Kansas State University in 1974.

I had my first job at the age of 12 washing water tanks at a feedyard in Garden City. I worked my way through college washing dishes at my fraternity, tending bar at night and shoeing horses on the side.

My first job on completing my University degree in Animal Science was with Robinson Seed Company as a District Sales Manager in central Ks. My territory covered 33 counties in the central part of the state. After my daughter was born we moved to Eastern Montana where I was awarded the position of assistant manager of the Glasgow Livestock Auction.

My next step was to work for Producers Livestock Company in North Salt Lake where I was eventually promoted to Arizona, as the manager of a feedyard in Maricopa Az. I managed the feedyard in Maricopa for 3 years until I was offered the position of General Manager for The Red River Feedyard, formerly owned by John Wayne. After 3 years the company was bought by an investment firm which prompted me to go into business for myself as a commodity broker and cattle broker.

I created a successful cattle brokerage business in Phoenix for about 10 years. I bought and sold cattle over most of the Western US and was a commission buyer for Monforts of Colorado buying fat cattle from the feedyards in Arizona.

Drought caused a dramatic decline in cattle numbers in Arizona and New Mexico so I moved to El Paso and Went to work for Agri-Tech selling Mexican cattle to farmers and ranchers in the Texas Panhandle. After 4 years Monforts of Colorado bought Agri-Tech and closed the Mexican operation down, so I made the move to Fort Worth in 1995.

In 1996 it became clear to me that I should make a change. I got my real estate license and started in Gainesville, then on to Denton, specializing in farm and ranch real estate. I received my brokers license in 2001 and started my own brokerage in 2008 named Reata Realty."
